Tikanga Maori

Tikanga are the customs and traditions that have been handed down through the passage of time.

They come from the word Tika things that are true.

The foundation of Tikanga rest at the dawn of time when events were happening, the world were being made, domains being decided, the balance was being put in place and English was not being spoke.

All Tikanga stems from time.

Today Tikanga is often influence by other culture’s views and perspective and for Maori people searching for Tikanga today, they will be clouded with Western attitudes, Christian ideas and Easter Philosophy.

So, how do we find the Tikanga of our ancestors?

The best place to begin is our ancient past and within our own wairua ‘Spirit’
